Cleanses and detoxification methods have been around for centuries with good reason. A body’s organs of elimination are continually pounded on, cleanses and detoxification are an excellent way to allow them to repair and regenerate and to ensure that they don’t get “clogged up” with the toxins that you get from both your environment and the foods you eat.
The body is inundated with toxins and chemicals in the food you eat, your home environment, and your workplace environment. Things like pesticide residue on the foods you eat, or chemicals that you ingest in the atmosphere can come from anything like carpet chemicals to air conditioning filters that aren’t adequately maintained. They are continually taxing your elimination organs like your kidneys, lungs, liver, and gastrointestinal system. A cleanse allows those organs to regenerate so they can function optimally.
Symptoms of toxin overload are things like unexplained weight gain, hormone imbalance, skin issues, GI problems and cognitive issues like brain fog or not having the ability to concentrate. If you notice any of these symptoms, then it is a good idea to perform a detox or a cleanse. A basic cleanse would be a juice fast using superfoods green powder, highly recommended “New Greens”, a couple of times a day and either eliminating particular foods or fasting altogether. The cleanse should ideally last between 24 and 48 hours, anything more than that should be medically monitored.
When you are cleansing or detoxifying, it is important to recognize that you might have diminished energy, experience GI issues, skin issues, or even have body odor changes. Because you are targeting the organs that eliminate toxins, you might notice specific changes in your body, so the timing is important. When you are cleansing, exercising is okay, just don’t overdo it. Excessive or vigorous activity is not recommended. While detoxing, you might want to engage in sitting in a hot tub or spa or even consider colonic irrigation to pull the toxins from the body.
With spring right around the corner, now might be an excellent time to consider giving your elimination organs times to regenerate and repair by doing a simple organ cleanse like a juice fast – it can do wonders to give your organs a break and get them back to working optimally.
